(Châteauguay, August 17, 2009)

Citizens’ Action party believes that the preservation and enhancement of the Châteauguay-Léry Green Belt, which forms a natural corridor between the park Fernand-Séguin and Île Saint-Bernard, must be one of the priorities for the next municipal council. The Action citoyenne/Citizens’ Action team endorses the recommendations made by Héritage Saint-Bernard and is committed to working toward this objective.

"Facts do not lie: this area is home to flora species of exceptional richness. Green spaces contribute significantly to our quality of life and our health and have an impact on our collective prosperity. Additionally, they offer interesting recreational/touristic potential. Chateauguay’s elected officials have the power to preserve this collective wealth. Moreover, it is possible to obtain financial aid from government and private sectors to accomplish it" emphasized Nathalie Simon, head of Citizens’ Action and mayoral candidate for Chateauguay.

"The preservation and management of our natural environment can become a formidable economic lever. Municipalities that razed their green spaces to make way for residential developments are now spending fortunes to reforest their territory," adds Ms. Simon.

The party has consulted extensively with the population in recent weeks. Some 600 people took part in this exercise. "People have shared their concerns about various municipal issues and what they want for Chateauguay. These points will be discussed during the Citizens’ Action conference on August 30th," indicated Nathalie Simon.

Citizens’ Action has a team comprised of diligent candidates who are fully committed to the interests of their fellow citizens.

Bv: Alain Côté, Karen Donohue, Nathalie Simon, LaFlorya Young-Rombaut, Guillaume Dumas, Esther Salomon, Marcel Deschamps, Ginette Gendron and Pierre Gloutnay will defend the colors of Action citoyenne/Citizens' Action in the forthcoming municipal elections on November 1, 2009.
